CISONECC is a network established in 2008, comprising 38 network members. The objective of the Network is to coordinate civil society responses to climate change and related disasters, and provide a platform for engagement with the government and other stakeholders on climate change and related fields for improved adaptation and mitigation to climate change impacts.
CISONECC became a Southern Voices Partner in 2009 after participating in discussions related to the SVA inception at COP 15. It has received financial support for SVA related programmes since 2011.
CISONECC’s work on climate change
The Network is involved in policy research and advocacy, and during the past three years it has successfully influenced the development of many different policies, such as the National Disaster Risk Management (NDRM) Policy, the National Climate change policy and National Meteorological Policy, and the initial processes of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
As part of its mandate to coordinate civil society networks and collaborate with relevant stakeholders, CISONECC facilitates dialogues during international processes such as the UN climate negotiations. Further, the Network is represented on various national level committees, and it participates in national climate change related campaigns.
Advocacy and Joint Principles for Adaptation
In 2016, CISONECC developed a new strategy for policy influencing and capacity development, with support from the second phase of the Southern Voices on Adaptation program. Overall, CISONECC’s advocacy strategy targets climate change and disaster risk management policies. Some of the objectives are to make sure that policies are approved, and that national adaptation priorities are established based on community-driven processes.
