The Roundtable’s work on climate change
The Salvadoran Roundtable on Climate Change is a space for dialogue and systematic work on the issue of climate change.
The Roundtable works from an ethical-political, socio-environmental and technical-scientific perspective while it is also taking local and ancestral knowledge into consideration. The objective is to facilitate and streamline processes of dialogue and consensus to help tackle climate change more effectively at local, national and international level.

Advocacy and the Joint Principles for Adaptation
The Roundtable’s advocacy strategy is targeting El Salvador’s INDC and the adaptation component of the National Climate Change Plan. The aim is to assess the plan’s effectiveness in addressing climate change impacts and vulnerabilities.
The Roundtable is using the full framework of the Joint Principles for Adaptation (JPA) to assess the process of planning and implementing the National Climate Change Plan. Going forward, experiences from this process will produce recommendations on how to use the JPA in future adaptation planning.
Key achievements from advocacy work
The Salvadoran Roundtable on Climate Change has engaged in dialogue with representatives from the executive and legislative government departments, the private sector and other non-governmental actors to exchange and promote the Roundtable’s viewpoints.
The Roundtable has presented proposals to the government regarding the international negotiations under the UNFCCC (COP19 and COP20) as well as proposals for the Government Plan 2014-2019.
The Roundtable has made assessments of the needs and gaps in the national climate change policy framework, including the INDC and National Climate Change Plan preparation process as well as the implementation of the of the Climate Change Regional Strategy.
