21/1/2013: FERN, a Dutch-based forest and environmental INGO, calls for the World Bank to revisit its own policies. According to a newly released report, the Bank predicts a world which is up to 4 degrees warmer by the end of this century. Among other consequences from the rising temperatures, humid tropical forests are predicted to contract to only 25%. Yet, the Bank continues supporting unsustainable enterprises, for example by approving loans to coal-fired power plants. So, FERN asks, if the Bank is so serious about REDD, maybe it should start by revisiting its own policies!
